At the end of Act 2, it becomes clear that neither George nor Emily really want to get married. Why do they then? Do you think that they are making the right choice? How do you think this is going to change Act 3?

When George asks his future father-in-law Mr. Webb for marriage advice, what advice does he give? What lesson is Mr. Webb trying to teach George?

Many of you assumed early on that George and Emily would get married. How would you describe the reaction of their families to their wedding day?

Skipping Ahead...

The play begins in 1901 and then skips ahead three years for Act 2. Why do you think the author chose to move ahead? Why not keep the entire play about one year?
